This is a note to let people know that NCAR Graphics binaries are now
available for Linux RedHat 7.1, using either the GNU compilers or
    the Portland Group compilers.

I have also created a new version of the source code, version 4.2.3,
that should compile under the new version of the GNU compilers that
seems to be installed on most Linux RedHat 7.1 systems.

I ran into a few problems with the GNU compilers, some related to
optimization, and others related to gcc becoming more strict about
non-standard code. I attempted to fix all of these problems in
version 4.2.3. Many thanks go to Bart Brashers who gave me a big head
start in porting NCAR Graphics to Linux RedHat 7.1.

Feel free to download the pre-compiled binaries for RedHat 7.1 or the
new version of the source code from:

       http://ngwww.ucar.edu/ng4.2/download.html

Note that the only changes in the source code between versions 4.2.2
and 4.2.3 were the changes necessary to get the source to build under
the new GNU compilers. Thus, it is not necessary to download the
source unless you have a RedHat 7.1 system, *and* you want to build
    NCAR Graphics from source.

    Cheers,
