GFLAS legacy question - filename length limit

A bit over two years ago in a posting to this list I noted that there was a 57 character limit on file names supplied to GFLAS4 and at that time you stated that was a legacy of the (early) time it was written and you were looking into whether it would be too much trouble to allow for larger name lengths. I was wondering as to the final resolution of that question. [My reason for asking is that I wish to save the "flash files", which are used as overlays in my plots, to a separate directory and putting the directory name into the file name is not now possible].
