With the tip from Mary Haley, I have successfully compiled
NCARg 4.3.1 on an AMD Opteron system running
RedHat Enterprise 3.0 WS for AMD64 using 64bit version
of Portland Group compilers (pgf90 and pgcc).

The problem with idt that I had with 32bit version
of pgf90 compilation remains by I get around by using
GNU fortran (g77) version of idt to display gmeta output.
