Thanks for your knowledgable input, you know much about NCARG guts than
I do. I had described a "toy" case based on an NCARG example since
that was easiest for you and others to assess, but of course the
program I am actually using is more complex. In particular it utilizes
colored contours, the colors of which are varied at the time they are
being drawn so can't be set at the time of opening the workstation
(though like anything in programming I expect that could be done with
enough work)
I have noticed that the display _is_ as expected for both the X11 and PS
workstations, the NCGM workstation being the only one to have a
problem, so thought that might indicate a specific problem with that
module. I think a workaround will be to utilize the PS workstation,
instead of NCGM, to generate an output file and then use ImageMagick's
"convert" option to get a raster plot (though I have found that several
of the "convert" functions do not seem to work with a PS input file,
the simplest conversion does work).
