Greetings,
I am having troubles viewing and converting cgm files that are produced
from model runs. The code generates ncarg plots, and then I use the
ncgm2cgm filter to convert the files to vanilla cgm format. The problem is
that the vanilla format may be too vanilla. Have a couple questions.
1) Finding a viewer that displays them correctly has been difficult. The
only viewer that works with no complaints is an old DOS viewer called vcgm
- that's what I'm using. However, it is strictly a viewer and I would like
conversion and printing options. I've looked for updates to that program
but could not locate any.
I've tried many of the popular shareware graphics viewers/editors and they
all have problems with the cgm files. The plots come up very small
(80x100), if at all, and enlarging does no good - the detail is lost. MS
Word can read the files ok, but no header info is available for previewing
(which is convenient). The lack of header info seems to be the problem. The
shareware programs all say - no header info. Is the ncgm2cgm filter
correct? It seems to be forgetting to include header info on the cgm files.
Anyone know why this is? Any ideas how to view/edit/convert these cgm
files? I'm somewhat limited to the cgm format as I am working on a PC from
home.
2) Part of the reason I checked into the shareware programs was to find a
way to convert cgm to gif format. I would like to do some simple animations
(just looping through 20-30 plots would do), and animated gifs seem like an
easy way to do this. But, I cannot get the cgm files converted because the
conversion programs cannot read the cgm files.
Any way around this header problem? Are there other simple animation
methods that could be used - again, all I need is to loop through a
sequence of plots.
Any hints on these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
