I have done the following:
ctrans -d xwd gmeta >! gmeta.xwd
xv gmeta.xwd
When in xv, push the "save" button. The default format is gif.
You can also use ictrans to display the figure on your screen and then
use xwd in another window to grab and save the displayed image in xwd
format. Then use xv to get a gif file, just as above.
